Community-specific health differences refer to the unequal distribution in the burden of disease in certain community groups.

Why is CEAL focusing on community-specific health differences?

Some communities bear a larger burden of disease than others.  A variety of racial and socioeconomic groups encounter higher rates of illness and death from a wide array of health conditions. These differences in health outcomes not only influence the quality of life for many communities, but also limit the overall health and welfare of the nation.  Differences in health outcomes increase the costs of medical care and affect our economy due to loss of productivity and premature deaths each year.
